COVID-19 is a fast-growing, communicable, and deadly disease that has become a worldwide pandemic. With this disease attacking the US population it is changing our lives, but most specifically, hospital operations. As hospital operations are changed, our hospital case management roles change, as well.
Hospitals are struggling with determining best-practice, while social distancing and ensuring optimal outcomes for these patients, which may be critically ill. Limited visitors to a patient with a highly contagious disease changes the way we practice out case management processes with our patients and families. This disease will result in constantly changing strategies and we must keep up with them.
The case management department leader has specific responsibilities, as do RN and social work case managers. Understanding new rules and regulations, as well as how to ensure that standing rules and regulations are met, will be discussed.
